Catherine's Annual Christmas Carol Concert Honours Unsung Heroes

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her customary festive musical service at Westminster Abbey, with guests including royals, celebrities and local heroes who have supported their local areas.

The large audience will hear a selection of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from stars like Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Centred Around Love and Generosity

The central message of the concert, held in the candle-lit Abbey on the afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

In the audience are a couple named the Cordiners, whose young girl was lost to a tumour, and who founded an organisation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an profound impact to the well-being of people," Her Royal Highness stated in a message before the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The Princess of Wales is continuing her own gradual return to the public eye subsequent to her illness and medical care, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Performance and Potential

Attendees entering the Abbey will enjoy performances from talented youth performers backed by the Future Talent organisation, set up with the help of the late Duchess of Kent to widen access to instrumental training.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who performs on the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been supported by the organisation, with awards contributing to musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "amazing" to be taking part in the evening's event.

"Pursuing music is often costly," Carys said. She is now enrolled at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to develop their musical skills.

A Sisterly Duo

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who is a euphonium player, will also be at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many important people," she said.

Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will feature Saphia Turner, aged nine, winner of a prize for youthful altruism, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to collect donations for food banks.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been festooned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Taking to the stage will be singer Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a Cornish sea shanty group, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the perfect culmination."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be televised and shown on television on December 24th.
