Liz Truss, began the premiere of her YouTube show with a promise to expose "the evil-doers" attempting to weaken Western democracies. She stated she would lay bare how an "international network of progressives operate to undermine popular rule and the will of the people."

"We will examine the Maga phenomenon and observe how this can be accomplished in Britain," the former PM stated. "We'll be talking to the key figures of the Trumpist political sphere."

In advance of the series premiere, there was one particularly enthusiastic supporter. "This represents the dawn of a kind of revolution," remarked veteran reporter John Solomon. The right-leaning Just the News will carry the Truss's new audio shows.

Building Connections in the Maga-Verse

UK-based allies, featuring a pro-Reform adviser, have also helped her set up the Liz Truss Show. The setup is adequate, if somewhat rudimentary. The show has attracted 10,000 subscribers in her first week and her first episode had tens of thousands of views during that week.

This represents a humble beginning, but in aligning with Solomon, Truss is being entering a well-developed political media sphere creating and spreading Maga talking points. Key fixations encompass accusations of information control by the established press and a aim to dismantle a conspiratorial 'deep state' – a force that the ex-PM holds responsible for the swift end of her disastrous time in office.

"Solomon's outlet is not widely recognized outside of the pro-Trump media sphere, but it does have gravitas there, largely because of Solomon, who gives commentary on conservative outlets like Steve Bannon's War Room and has even interviewed Donald Trump," commented Alex Hinton, who has analyzed the Make America Great Again phenomenon.

A Controversial Partner

Her effort to bring the pro-Trump media model to Britain has drawn her nearer to contentious individuals such as John Solomon.

He founded his media outlet after criticism after he was accused of promoting misleading narratives about Biden's anti-corruption work in the Eastern European nation, as well as controversial stories about ex-ambassador to Ukraine.

His claims were repeated across the pro-Trump outlets, with Solomon appearing as a frequent visitor on the widely-watched cable news broadcast. Trump himself endorsed the journalist's work.

He wrote the allegations regarding Ukraine in a number of opinion pieces for the outlet the Hill, after having been re-labelled as a columnist after colleagues complained over his articles. His claims were pivotal in Trump's demand for the Ukrainians to investigate the Biden family in that year. Those demands led to impeachment charges against Trump. Senators later voted to acquit the then-president.

Shortly after the journalist departed the Hill in October 2019, the publication revealed it was carrying out a review of his work relating to Ukraine. It concluded the journalist had cited unreliable sources and noted he "failed to identify crucial information about key Ukrainian sources, including the reality that they had been indicted or were being probed."

Joining the Network

Solomon's own TV and radio guest spots are a example of the political media environment the former prime minister is becoming part of. Solomon mentioned his endorsement of Truss's project on a broadcast he helps run on the right-wing channel, a political media platform that is home to the pro-Trump commentator ex-Trump strategist Bannon and on which former Fox host Tucker Carlson also is seen. She has already spoken with the political operative on one of her first podcasts.

In linking up with this media figure, the former leader has become a small part in a much wider network of pro-Trump platforms that routinely amplify each other's content.

Solomon's own podcast and Real America's Voice show have frequently included individuals such as Mike Benz, a conservative commentator whose disparagement of the US Agency for International Development was referenced by the tech billionaire as justification for dismantling the foreign aid agency.

An International Strategy

While the former PM's unnatural presentation and political travails have invited ridicule within the UK, certain American analysts are taking seriously her attempts to rebrand as a British branch of the pro-Trump media ecosystem.

"One must regard folks like that with seriousness, despite the fact that you may not want to interpret them word-for-word," said a former Biden White House aide, who was employed in the Obama White House.

"You saw how in the recent campaign President Trump used that alternative press to disseminate his views. Undoubtedly that ecosystem transmits and affects debate internationally. It seems quite apparent to me that the circumstances in the Britain are akin to what permitted this alternative media ecosystem to flourish in the US."

Alan Finlayson, said the online conservative ecosystem was already exerting influence in Britain.

"The internet transcends national boundaries," he stated. "There is a certain milieu within which stuff flows – sometimes manifesting in radical ways and sometimes less so – but which is connected."

The academic said the rise of the digital conservative movement in the United Kingdom in recent times meant the "possibility to have a larger effect is considerable."
